Investigation underway after CO was killed in Meridian
MERIDIAN, Miss. (WCBI) – There is new information on the death of a Mississippi correctional officer.
A guard at the East Mississippi Correctional Facility in Lauderdale County was shot and killed earlier Tuesday afternoon.
Our statewide news partner, WTOK-TV in Meridian is reporting that a suspect is in custody, and that that suspect is a fellow prison guard.
According to Lauderdale County Sheriff-Elect Ward Calhoun, 2 correctional officers at East Mississippi Correctional got into a fight in the prison parking lot around 1 this afternoon. One of the officers reportedly shot the other, killing him.
Calhoun said both were on-duty at the time, so the investigation is being treated as an Officer-Involved Shooting and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation will take the lead.
