PITTSBORO, Miss. (WCBI) — One person is dead and a shooter is at large.
Calhoun County Sheriff Greg Pollan tells us the victim is 27-year-old Kenneth Patterson Jr.
It happened when two masked men, armed with assault-style, weapons broke into a Calhoun County home where two men lived.
That’s when the shootout began.
“I was just shocked, just shocked. Never had anything happened you know in this area, like this, just shocked,” said property owner, Loretta Williams.
Williams owns this house where the shooting took place.
She says the area is normally quiet.
“It’s peaceful never had nothing with bullet holes everywhere, never had this,” said Williams.
Authorities say around 1:15 Tuesday morning, two men broke into a house.
But the two people who live here were home.
“The homeowner had a weapon and was able to get to his weapon and he fired his shot, striking one of the assailants. Unfortunately for one of the occupants of the residence, he was shot and was killed and we found him here in the home once we arrived,” said Sheriff Pollan.
One of the two occupants of the home was able to flee after he fired a shot at one of the invaders, hitting him in the abdomen.
The suspect later showed up at Calhoun Health Services before being airlifted to UMC, where he is listed in critical condition.
Sheriff Pollan says deputies are still looking for the second shooter.
“We have some leads that we’re following up on now. Deputies and MBI are out working on those leads now and we hope to have something concrete by the end of the day,” added Sheriff Pollan.
