Interchange improvement projects moving into next phase

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A project to improve two interchanges along Highway 82 in Lowndes County is moving into its next phase.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation has been working on interchanges at 18th Avenue and Military Road in Columbus.

Crews will soon finish realigning and widening interchange ramps at 18th Avenue.

The next phase will include installing a new signal at the eastbound exit ramp and upgrading existing signals at the westbound exit ramp.

Workers will then move to the Military Road Interchange where two new roundabouts will be constructed.

To limit traffic impacts, the work at Military will be done at night.

The 4.8 million project is expected to be completed in spring 2020.
