Inmate Charged For Assaulting A Corrections Officer

CHICKASAW COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A Chickasaw County corrections officer continues to recover after being attacked this past weekend.

Now, 50-year-old Larry Jones is charged with Aggravated Assault on a Corrections Officer.

His bond was set at $50,000 this afternoon, February 12.

Jones was originally booked in jail by Houlka police on a Simple Assault Charge.

Sheriff James Meyers says the incident happened late Saturday night at the Chickasaw County jail.

The female corrections officer was going to each jail cell to check on inmates.

When she got to the cell Jones was being housed in, that’s when it appeared he needed help.

“Told her that he was having difficulty breathing and was acting like he was under some type of distress, and when she unlocked the door he rushed her. He struck her in the face several times, knocking her to the ground. She was able to get away from him and get out the door and lock the door behind her,” says Sheriff Meyers.

The jailer was treated and released from the hospital.
