Inmate Accused Of Trying To Sneak Contraband Into Jail
LEE CO., Miss. (WCBI) – A plan to bring contraband into a local jail lands an inmate in more hot water with the law.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Department wrapped up an investigation into a plan to bring contraband
into the Lee County Detention Center.
An inmate repeatedly tried to bribe a corrections officer to smuggle a cellphone into the jail.
An undercover operation was set up, and police eventually busted 43-year-old Kerry Ryan Hammock as the culprit.
Hammock was already in jail for possession of methamphetamine.
He allegedly said he’d pay $200 dollars to a detention center officer to get a phone into the jailhouse.
Once Hammock approached the officer with the bribe, the officer reported it to his supervisor.
Hammock now faces a charge of one count of attempting to bring contraband into a detention center.
At the next grand jury, Lee County Sheriff’s Department will present a case against Hammock from bribing a public official.
Both of those charges are felonies.
