ICC Softball Pitcher Signs with Martin Methodist
FULTON, Miss. (WCBI/LetsGoICC.com) – Pitcher Montana Hawkins signed a National Letter of Intent to continue her softball career with the RedHawks of Martin Methodist College in Pulaski, TN.
“We are extremely proud for Montana,” said Coach Andy Kirk. “She was a really a big part of why we were able to be so successful over the past two years and I know she’ll bring that same level of success to Martin Methodist.”
Hawkins (Sulligent, AL) earned Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) All-North Division honorable mention after finishing her sophomore season with a 12-5 record with a 3.20 ERA, 49 strikeouts and a .952 fielding percentage to help the Lady Indians earn the program’s highest ranking at No. 11 in the final NJCAA poll of the season.
“I’m really excited about playing at Martin Methodist next year,” said Hawkins. “Look forward to working hard and trying to help the team as much as I can. I really appreciate everything Coach Kirk and Coach (Cary) Simmons did to help me get better and have this opportunity.”
As a freshman, Hawkins earned MACJC All-State and All-North Division honors after going 12-6 with a 2.71 ERA, 53 strikeouts and a team-best 1.000 fielding percentage.
The Lady Indians extended their MACJC North Division championship streak to three-straight years after winning back-to-back division championships and 68 games during Hawkins’ two years in Fulton.
Martin Methodist College is a member of the NAIA’s Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC). Last season, the RedHawks finished 32-25 and advanced to the third round of the SSAC Tournament.
Hawkins is the third-straight ICC pitcher to sign to play on the next level and joins Delta State signee and National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-American Kory Watterson (Nesbit) to continue her career.
