ICC Football Adds QB Transfer from Washington State University

FULTON, Miss. (WCBI/LetsGoICC.com) – Coach Sean Cannon confirmed Wednesday that former Washington State University quarterback Peyton Bender has officially transferred to Itawamba Community College.
The redshirt freshman completed 53-of-91 passes for 498 yards, three touchdowns, four interceptions in five games and finished the season with a 58.2 completion rate.
Bender completed 1-of-4 for 18 yards after coming off the bench in the season opener against Portland State. He was 1-for-2 for two yards against Oregon State and 2-for-5 for 57 yards with a key touchdown just before halftime in the Cougars’ 31-27 upset victory at No. 18 UCLA while going 13-of-22 for 133 yards and a touchdown the following week against Colorado.
He got his first start of the season at Washington in the Apple Cup and completed 36-of-58 passes for 288 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.
Bender was a three-star quarterback out of Cardinal Gibbons High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and picked Washington State over an offer from Penn State.
As a senior, he was named 5A All-State honorable mention after going 167-for-256 for 2,184 yards, 28 touchdowns and six interceptions in 10 games. The Chiefs went 9-1 before Bender broke his collarbone in the 10th game of the season forcing him to miss the remainder of the season.
Bender was ranked the No. 25 pro-style quarterback in the country and No. 81 overall prospect in Florida by Rivals.com while Scout.com listed him at No. 80 among Florida prospects.
ICC will open the 2016 football season against Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College on Thursday, September 1 at Eaton Field.
