Hurricane Warnings for Mississippi Gulf Coast
GULFPORT, Miss. (WCBI) – Hurricane Warnings have been issued for the Alabama and Mississippi Gulf Coasts. Tropical Storm Warnings are in effect from Southeast Louisiana through Destin, Florida.
As the storm carries to the north and west, it is expected to develop into a Category 1 Hurricane before making landfall Tuesday Night on the Mississippi Coast. Sustained winds will be over 75 mph, and some areas along the coast will see 3-5’+ of Storm Surge and 3-6″+ of rainfall.
The State Emergency Operations Center has been activated and is monitoring conditions along with supplying requests for resources from counties.
Residents in the warned area are encouraged to stay up-to-date with the latest information. Shelters are opening up, schools are closing and sand-bag stations are located along the coast.
A Hurricane Warning is issued when hurricane force winds are expected to impact an area in the next 48 hours. These sustained winds are greater than 74 mph.
A Tropical Storm Warning is issued when a tropical storm is expected to impact an area with winds from 39 to 73 miles per hour in the next 48 hours.
