Huber on NCBWA Stopper of the Year Watch List
Senior right-hander Brett Huber has been named as one of the closers to watch this season by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association of America when he was named to the preseason watch list for Stopper of the Year on Friday.
Huber, who passed on the MLB Draft a year ago to return to Ole Miss for his senior season, enters the 2013 season tied for the career saves record with 26. It matches the total number of saves recorded by three-time All-American Stephen Head from 2003-2005.
The right-hander, who posted 10 saves a year ago, needs one more save to become the all-time save leader in Rebel Baseball history.
As a junior, Huber posted 10 saves and combined for three shutouts while posting a 2-2 record on the mound. The right-hander was big in the Rebels’ series win over No. 1 Florida, posting a save in the series opener when the Rebels shutout the Gators 3-0 before picking up the ninth-inning win for the Rebels in the series finale to pick up the series victory.
Huber also picked up saves at No. 10 TCU in the season opener, against No. 4 LSU in the series opener and No. 25 Arkansas at the SEC Tournament. He also picked up a save and a win in the weekend series against Tennessee to help the Rebels post a sweep of the Volunteers.
For his career, Huber has posted a 6-3 record with a 3.39 ERA through 103.2 innings of work. He has struck out 104 batters while walking only 49 and been a part of five shutouts.
Huber and the Rebels take the field to open the 2013 campaign on Friday, February 15 at 4 p.m. when No. 13 Ole Miss will host No. 14 TCU in the first game of a weekend series at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.
