COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — It’s been three seasons since the Victory Christian Academy Eagles sat at the top of the CFA eight-man football class.
The Eagles have been rebuilding since then, and this year could be the year Victory Christian is back in title contention.
Starting quarterback Gavin Forrester, leading rusher and tackler Garrett Anthony, and three other key starters return for head coach Chris Hamm in 2017.
“We’re going to set a goal of making playoffs this year. We’ve been down a couple years, but I feel like this is going to be a good year for us as far as having the opportunity to do that,” Hamm said.
“I’m looking for a little more unity team wise and a little more mental toughness this year. Hopefully, the injury bug will stay away, we were hit pretty hard last year. If we have some luck there, it should be a good season.”
“My brother and a few of my other classmates, seniors this year, their brothers graduated with their state championship three years ago,” senior tight end and defensive end Dakota Bradford said, “and I just want to go out like they did. Be able to show that, even though we are younger, we’re still able to do like they can.”
