HOUSTON/WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) — Veterans got a Star-Spangled salute today in Veterans Day ceremonies at Houston High School.
And in West Point, it was the youngest of voices offering up a salute.
Houston High’s staff said the annual service is more of an honor than a tradition as the students get to show their appreciation to the military men and women in their community.
The veterans paraded into the school’s gym and were greeted by a standing ovation and patriotic music from the school’s band.
Student leaders then followed with a tribute to different branches of the military and their service.
Some of West Points youngest voices paid tribute to that community’s veterans today.
In West Point, kindergarten students at East Side Elementary recognized friends and relatives who are veterans with a musical tribute. Veterans were asked to stand while the song of their branch of the military was sung.
And the students made sure they were sent off with a flag-waving crowd.
