HOUSTON, Miss. (WCBI) — Houston area residents and businesses have a chance to help put up Christmas decorations.
Houston aldermen have given the OK to hanging Christmas lights to the dome of the Courthouse. However, the snowflakes, which hang in trees, are old and many in disrepair. So are decorations that line utility poles on city streets.
And repairs or replacements are expensive.
One alderman suggested the city undertake a campaign, which would allow businesses or individuals to help pay for new ornaments or to repair the old ones.
“We do have some dilapidated ornaments that have been around, they’re antique, but we do need to refurbish some of those and we are encouraging some of the people in our community or anyone outside the community, to come in and help rehab, adopt a snowflake,” said Houston Mayor Stacey Parker.
The snowflakes will cost about $250 each to replace.
