Hospitalized Congressman to Take Oath of Office in Miss.

JACKSON, Miss. — A north Mississippi congressman will take his oath of office in Tupelo because he was too ill to go to Washington for a swearing-in ceremony.

Republican U.S. Rep. Alan Nunnelee’s spokeswoman, Elizabeth Parks, says U.S. District Judge Michael Mills will administer the oath to Nunnelee, who is hospitalized.

Parks said Wednesday that the congressman’s office is working on details of when and where the swearing-in will take place. Other members of Congress took their oaths Tuesday in Washington.

Nunnelee won his third two-year term in November.

He was admitted Dec. 28 to in North Mississippi Medical Center in his hometown of Tupelo for treatment of a hematoma, a bleeding problem in his left leg.

The 56-year-old Nunnelee has been recovering since having a stroke during brain surgery in June.
