‘Hope Continues’
TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Medical clinics, hospitals and other health care providers get some financial help to better serve women when it comes to breast cancer screenings and awareness.
Proceeds from the first “Hope Continues 5K” are being distributed to area medical facilities and non profits.
That 5K was held the last Saturday in October , to replace the “Komen Race for the Cure” which was discontinued when the Komen Foundation closed its Tupelo office.
“Hope Continues” attracted more than 900 participants, and all of the money stays in Northeast Mississippi.
“We started the charity to make sure we funded those gaps that were going to be left when Komen left and just the community coming out and supporting each other and keeping it all local,” said Adam Morris, organizer of “Hope Continues 5K”
“What that means is we’re able to identify patients who are under insured, or not insured and able to help those have the mammograms and screenings that they need to detect cancer at an early stage so their prognosis could be better,” said Abigail Farris, with the NMMC Breast Care Center.
The first “Hope Continues 5K’ raised $50,000. It will be an annual event, the last weekend in October.
