MABEN, Miss. (WCBI) — A new era begins this year with the West Oktibbeha Timberwolves.
Long-time head coach Adam Lowrey has moved on and so have talented seniors Von Smith and Tiberias Lampkin. Smith passed and ran for over 2,000 yards last season while Lampkin nearly eclipsed that mark just on the ground.
Replacing those names plus the innovative Lowrey will be no easy task.
“We’re in a total rebuilding process right now,” said new head coach Danny Crawford. “For years ago I came here and we were loaded with 9th and 10th graders. Those kids have graduated and now we’re starting over playing with 9th and 10th graders this year.”
The question still remains whether or not the T’Wolves will be able to compete outside the division and in the postseason due to probation from the MHSAA, but coach Crawford doesn’t feel that will bring a halt to his team.
“Motivation is pretty easy for us. Coach Lowrey did a great job of instilling pride in our program,” coach Crawford said. “We were top 10 in 1A and he did a great job here. Our motivation is to continue to win, even with a rebuilding team.”
