COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — After two seasons of finishing below expectations, Victory Christian has aspirations of returning back to their top form.
The Eagles return a stout team from last year’s (3-6) squad, but don’t be fooled by their record. Five of eight starters are back on offense for VCA including their entire offensive line and two running backs.
Head coach Chris Hamm will have to replace senior quarterback Bryer Bolton, but VCA will continue to focus on their ground attack which rushed for over 1,000 yards last season.
The goal for this year according to Coach Hamm: make it back to the CFA State Championship.
Victory Christian had made three consecutive trips to the State Title from 2008-2010, but the last two years the Eagles have come up short in the playoffs.
This time around, coach says it’s about teaching the kids not just to be excited for Friday nights but also be excited for Monday’s and Tuesday’s as well.
Expect to see juniors Anthony Sharp and Cody Bolton to lead the attack on the ground for VCA this year along with senior Hunter Austin.
The Eagles will begin the season on August 23rd as they face Hebron Christian on the road.
