PHEBA, Miss. (WCBI) – With a senior-laden team, Hebron Christian reached the state semifinals last season. It’s an accomplishment fifth-year head coach David Foster and the Eagles are proud of.
Now, the team will have to find a way to win with no returning starters.
“Always, the goal is to make it to the playoffs,” Foster said. “Our goal is to win games but get better every week as we play.”
Two guys return from a year ago. Hebron Christian will start a freshman at quarterback.
“You have to learn how to win” he said. “I have to get that mentality in my new guys.”
Foster said it’s simple things like knowing hand signals from the sidelines that the team will have to adjust to.
“It was very fun last year. This year, I hope we can do the same,” freshman Elijah Parrish said.
“With most of the seniors leaving, it’ll be more difficult, but I think we could do as well as we did last year,” junior Kolbe Thompson said.
Foster said there are signs that this is a team with potential.
“They’re eager to learn,” he said. “They’re young, but their attitude seems to be good.”
Hebron will return to its division with Calhoun, Central and Kemper Academies.
