HB 1523 Law Officially Goes into Effect October 6th, After Court Denies Rehearing
JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI)- The U.S. Court of Appeals has denied the request for the rehearing of the plaintiffs who challenged the passage of HB 1523 in Mississippi.
HB 1523 is an anti-LGBT law that will go into effect across Mississippi on October 6th of this year.
The law authorizes Mississippi officials and service providers, such as doctors and store owners, to refuse to serve LGBT individuals- on the basis of three specific religious beliefs about gay marriage, transgender individuals, and sex before marriage.
The Campaign for Southern Equality says they plan to return to the district court in attempt to overturn the law as soon as possible.
