Hazlehurst’s Randal Montgomery Expected to be Named Next Columbus Head Football Coach
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Three weeks after officially beginning their search for a new football coach, Columbus appears to have their man.
Multiple sources have confirmed to WCBI that Hazlehurst head football coach Randal Montgomery has accepted the open head coaching position at Columbus High School.
Columbus Schools is withholding the name of the candidate pending school board approval. The school district is expected to make a recommendation for head football coach at the January 21, 2014 board meeting.
In a press release from the Columbus School District, it says: “The person being recommended has championship pedigree and possesses the qualities and skill set needed to take the program to a level of excellence.”
Montgomery has been head coach of the Hazlehurst Indians the last three seasons, helping the school earn its second 3A State Championship back in 2012. He amassed a 43-4 record in his three years at Hazlehurst including three trips to the 3A State Title game, where he was 1-2.
