Hamilton Playground Goes Up

HAMILTON, Miss. (WCBI)-Kids in the Hamilton area will soon have a state-of-the-art playground in their backyard. Phase One of a community build finished up today[Thursday]. The project is made possible by the Hamilton PTO, local businesses, and the Gilmore Early Learning Initiative. Now that a dozen volunteers are helping, a backhoe is digging holes for a new playground to be enjoyed by area children. Its out with the old and in with the new.

“The equipment that we did remove is stuff that was not accessible to, with state regulations for some of our 4 year old kindergarten classroom, 4 year old Pre-K class,” said Michelle Stevens, Principal.

The entire community is lending a hand and going into their wallets to make Phase One of the project happen.

“We didn’t start out with a whole lot but we have raised a good bit in a short period of time,” said Stevens.

“Any handicapped need, whether it be autism, in a wheel chair, blind. Any of our students should be able to play together and to have full access to our playground,” said Chris Markham, PTO President.

“We’ve had people all over, Hamilton have come to be a part of this and have donated if not monetarily they have given their time to help see this project come to light,” said Markham.

Phase One of the Project is allowing students to begin using the playground when they return from summer vacation.
