Lowndes County detectives say the 64 year-old victim was at a Highway 45 convenience store this past Friday morning when Cox asked her for a ride.

After the woman refused, deputies say Cox jumped in the driver’s seat to steal the car.

The victim tried to stop him, but Cox reportedly put the vehicle in reverse knocking the woman to the ground.

A Columbus police officer spotted the stolen car six minutes after the 911 call and pulled over Cox.

The owner of the car had non life-threatening injures.

Bond for Cox has not been set.
