Guntown PD Gets Donation Of Surplus Equipment From Lee County Sheriff Department

GUNTOWN, MISS. (WCBI) – A Northeast Mississippi police department gets some surplus equipment to help outfit its police cruisers.

Recently, the city of Guntown purchased a couple of Crown Victorias for its police department.

At the same time, the Lee County Sheriff’s Department replaced some of its old Crown Vics, with newer vehicles.

The Tahoes and other vehicles at the Sheriff’s Department could not use accessories, such as cage systems, push bumpers and certain lights.

State Senator Chad McMahan, who is also an alderman in Guntown, contacted the Lee County Sheriff, who donated the surplus equipment to Guntown’s police department.

“This is a great example of county government and city municipal government working together to maximize taxpayers tax dollars,” Sen. McMahan said.

“Any monetary amount we can give them, whether it being a donation or whatever certainly helps and  so we wanted to do what we can and help still serve the citizens of Lee County, which Guntown is located in,” said Sheriff Johnson.
Crown Victorias are no longer made for law enforcement.
