COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Some things are just better with friends.
Most of us don’t like going to a restaurant by ourselves, and its always a good idea to swim with a buddy.
The same can be said for other forms of fitness.
Human beings tend to be at their best when they work together.
That’s the idea behind fitness classes.
Whitney Brown is a group exercise instructor at the Fitness Factor in Columbus.
She says, ” It offers you a different kind of atmosphere than you are going to get by yourself. You have a lot of different people with you. It helps you stay motivated.”
Five year fitness fanatic Natalie Adams concurs, ” (I am) Happy with it. I stay fit. I get to come and hang out with friends and de-stress at the end of the day, so it is a good experience.”
Positive peer pressure is a plus.
Another benefit of group exercise is expert instruction.
Whitney elaborates, ” You also have an instructor who is qualified to teach you what they are doing, and they show you how to do things properly in a safe environment.
Natalie adds, The instructors will help you with your form and show you the correct technique to us, that way you are not hurting yourself.”
But what if you are just getting started, and you’re worried that the rest of the class will be in much better shape?
Natalie can relate.
She remembers, ” Five years ago, when I came to the Fitness Factor, I had never worked out, wasn’t into exercise, wasn’t into any of it, and so miss Beth took me under her wing and showed me the ropes and got me involved in her classes and the classes are for everyone.”
Now Natalie runs marathons.
Whitney adds, ” We have modifications in each class, so someone who is maybe not as fit, can come in and still be able to get a great workout out in. ”
Have fun, make new friends and get fit, that sounds like a hat trick for happiness.
