Grenada Officer Settles Lawsuit
GRENADA, Miss. (WCBI) — A Grenada police detective is promoted to lieutenant and given $50,000 as part of a lawsuit settlement with the city.
Dan Brown sued the city after being passed over for a promotion when Capt. John Haddock was killed in the line of duty in October 2011.
The 41-year-old Brown who had been with the department for more than 12 years at the time, claimed he was a victim of reverse discrimination because the department promoted a less qualified African-American.
Brown’s attorney Jim Waide of Tupelo says the city and his client settled the case for the lump sum payment and the promotion.
