LAMAR COUNTY, Ala. (WCBI) — A discarded cigarette causes a scare at a Lamar County, Ala. home.
Volunteer firefighters from the Palmetto Community and other agencies in south Lamar and north Pickens counties responded to an out-of-control grass fire along Highway 17 about a mile north of the Pickens County line at about 3 p.m. Thursday.
The fire spread to within about 50 feet of a home before it was brought under control.
Officials say they think a cigarette thrown from a passing car may have started the fire.
