Gov. Tate Reeves: All public schools to remain closed for rest of semester
Public school students will not be returning for the rest of the spring semester.
In a press conference this afternoon, Governor Reeves asked teachers to continue distance learning.
The governor asked school districts to present plans for online learning for the rest of the year.
Educators were also asked to prepare for summer or early fall learning as an option for make-up school.
Reeves explains this will not be mandated.
“We know that this virus doesn’t hit everybody equally. Economic damage doesn’t hit everybody equally. Despite the best efforts of our education community, this hasn’t hit all students equally either. There are many who are surging ahead at this time, getting hours of instruction every day. There are others in circumstances that make that much harder,” explained Gov. Reeves.
Students were originally supposed to return to school on April 20.
