Gov. Bryant signs teacher pay raise bill

JACKSON, Miss. (WBI)- Governor Phil Bryant signs a bill that gives a $1,500 pay raise to teachers and assistant teachers across the Magnolia State.

Earlier Tuesday, Bryant’s Twitter account posted a photo of him signing Senate Bill 2770.

The tweet was captioned with the statement “good teachers can change the trajectory of a student’s life forever.”

The Mississippi Department of Education says that currently Mississippi teachers make almost $6,000 less than the Southeastern average.

The new pay raise will take effect on July 1st.
