Giving back: Community leaders team up for turkey drive
LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Law enforcement and community leaders are preparing for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday.
The Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office and the Community Benefit Committee have teamed up to spread a little holiday cheer and good food.
You can drop your turkeys off at the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department until November 17.
Organizers plan to give away 1,000 turkeys on November 18 at the new Lowndes County Sportsplex.
Lieutenant Rhonda Sanders is the president of the Community Benefit Committee.
She and Lowndes County Sheriff Eddie Hawkins said this allows both organizations to give back to the people of Columbus and Lowndes County.
“We love to give back, and that’s what’s important is helping a family that’s in need, that may not need a handout but just a hand up,” said Sanders.
“This year, we’re going to be doing our turkey giveaway at the new Bank First Sportsplex out here on Frontage Road. We felt like that would be the perfect place to do this to highlight the new center out there and be able to help our community and give back,” said Hawkins.
The last day to drop off a turkey or make a donation is November 17.
