Future flights could be in for smoother landing at Starkville airport
STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Future flights could be in for a smoother landing at George Bryan Airport in Starkville.
Carey Hardin, a field engineer with the airport, briefed Starkville business and community leaders on plans and progress for a couple of major expansion projects.
With more passenger traffic using Bryan Airport comes the need to expand areas for both planes and people.
Earlier this year, it was announced that the airport would be getting $4.5 million in Federal funding to build a 9,800-square-foot passenger terminal.
“There are two main future projects one is lengthening the runway by 1,000 feet to accommodate the traffic that we have more in fashion, and then the other is we’re working towards our building a general aviation terminal, which we’ve never had here in Starkville. We really need a dedicated general aviation terminal to handle the 30-passenger loads that we have coming in the charters for our smaller sports teams,” said Hardin.
Plans are also in the works for a new access road at the airport.
