Fulton Attorney Qualifies For Special Election
JACKSON, Miss. (AP) – Attorney Chip Mills of Fulton is entering a special election to fill an empty U.S. House seat in north Mississippi.
The 30-year-old Mills said Monday that he believes Washington is broken and it’s time for “the next generation of conservative leaders” to serve in Congress.
He’s the fourth declared candidate in the nonpartisan race to succeed Republican U.S. Rep. Alan Nunnelee, who died of brain cancer Feb. 6.
State Sen. Nancy Collins of Tupelo, district attorney Trent Kelly of Saltillo and attorney Quentin Whitwell of Oxford said last week that they are running in the special election.
Qualifying deadline is March 27, the election is May 12 and a runoff is June 2.
The winner will serve most of a two-year term that ends in January 2017.
