Four Road Games in Six Weeks Highlight Mississippi State’s 2016 Schedule
STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI/MSU Athletics) – Home games against South Carolina, Auburn, Texas A&M and Arkansas as well as non-conference road trips to UMass and BYU highlight the 2016 Mississippi State football schedule, which was unveiled by the Southeastern Conference on Thursday evening.
The Bulldogs open the season with back-to-back home contests against South Alabama (Sept. 3) and South Carolina (Sept. 10). It will be the Gamecocks’ first visit to Starkville since 2011.
State travels to LSU on Sept. 17 before embarking on a trip to the Northeast to face UMass on Sept. 24. The contest will be played in Gillette Stadium, the home of the New England Patriots. It will be MSU’s first game in the Northeast since defeating Syracuse, 24-17, on Sept. 6, 1986.
The Bulldogs welcome Auburn on Oct. 8 and then travel to Provo, Utah, to take on BYU on Oct. 15 in LaVell Edwards Stadium.
The November slate features traditional SEC home tilts against Texas A&M (Nov. 5) and Arkansas (Nov. 19). State travels to Tuscaloosa on Nov. 12 to face Alabama. The 2016 Egg Bowl will be played on Saturday, Nov. 26 in Oxford.
The 2016 season is the first for the SEC that adds a strength-of-schedule component that requires all schools to play an ACC, Big 12, Big Ten, Pac-12 or Major Independent opponent on an annual basis.
For the 25th consecutive year, the season will culminate with the SEC Championship Game on Saturday, Dec. 3 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.
