Former State Trooper’s Trial Set

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – An excessive force case involving a former area law enforcement officer is finally making its way through federal court.

Former state trooper sergeant Christopher Gary Hughes of Tupelo also has been charged with violating a woman’s civil rights by beating and stomping her during a 2007 arrest. No court date has been set.

Federal authorities could not explain why both cases took five years to result in criminal charges.
