Former Police Officer’s Lawsuit Against City Reaches Settlement
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- The City of Columbus and former police officer Canyon Boykin reach a settlement in a wrongful terminate lawsuit.
Court documents show the civil lawsuit was dismissed by reason of settlement.
The city’s insurer made the decision after Boykin filed the suit claiming the city violated his employment rights.
He was seeking actual damages against the city.
Boykin’s resignation was rejected by the city council and they fired him back in February 2016.
The former officer was indicted for manslaughter in the October 16, 2015 shooting death of Ricky Ball, which occurred while Boykin was a Columbus police officer.
Details on the settlement were not revealed in the court documents.
