Former New Hope Trojan Haley Tutor Named MACJC Player of the Week
SCOOBA, Miss. (WCBI/EMCC Athletics) – East Mississippi Community College outfielder Haley Tutor has been chosen the MACJC Softball Position Player of the Week, marking the second straight week a Lady Lion player has been selected for the state’s weekly junior college softball honor.
Last week, EMCC freshman catcher Abby Roberts was honored with the MACJC’s weekly recognition following the Lady Lions’ doubleheader splits with Holmes and Northwest Mississippi. Just as Roberts, a Clarkdale High School product, did two weeks ago, Tutor hit an identical .636 (7-for-11) this past week in helping lead the Lady Lions to three wins in four decisions. For the week, the Columbus native also scored four runs with three doubles and two walks.
Against division-leading Itawamba last Friday in Scooba, Tutor went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double and a run scored during both halves of the doubleheader split with ICC. The next day in EMCC’s sweep over Mississippi Delta, the sophomore left-fielder was a combined 3-for-5 with another double, two more runs scored and a run batted in.
For the Lady Lions this season, Tutor is hitting .374 with a team-high 26 runs scored from her lead-off position. The New Hope High School product also ranks second on this year’s EMCC team with 22 RBIs and eight doubles.
Head coach Kyndall White’s 17-15 EMCC Lady Lions enter the week 10-4 in division play and just one game out of first place in the current MACJC North Division softball standings. After stepping out of league play for Tuesday’s home twinbill against rival Meridian Community College, the Lady Lions will resume division action on the road by taking on Coahoma Community College in a Saturday doubleheader to be played in Clarksdale.
