LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — A former Lowndes County supervisor is back in jail.
Jim Terry, 52, turned himself in to Lowndes County Circuit Court on a probation violation for failing to pay court-ordered restitution. The former District 4 supervisor was convicted on Nov. 30, 2007, of fraud for using his county-issued gas card and car for gambling trips.
He was sentenced to 13 months in prison and five years post-release supervision. He also was ordered to pay court costs and more than $6,000 in restitution for the misused funds and investigation costs.
Terry appealed the convictions and remained out of prison until February 2010 when his last appeal was rejected and he reported to prison. He served less than a year of the 13 months.
Since his release, court records show Terry has made small, sporadic payments on the courts costs and restitution. Last week, he paid $1,000 toward the restitution but still owes $5,027.29. He’s told court officials he is unable to pay the rest.
He faces a Nov. 16 court hearing on the probation violation charge.
