STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – As Friday night football kicks off, a Starkville father is doing what he has done for the past few years: give his son a pre-game pep talk.
Arthur Brown’s son, A.J., began playing the game when he was just a kid. Brown says he has never missed a game.
This is AJ’s senior year. He was named to the Clarion Ledger’s elite Dandy Dozen list and has offers from several high profile college teams. His hard work, along with family support, has been a winning combination.
Arthur Brown says, “He had my name and I wanted to be there and I wanted to participate and it was the drive that I had that my parents put in me that I can give back in a different way.”
Brown says it has taken more than just time to help his eighteen year old son reach his full potential. He says it has been a financial commitment too.
“The money was hectic at times and I thank God because a lot of times I didn’t even know where the money was going to come from, but we were using bill money and whatever money that we could borrow because it wasn’t about the money. It was about my son.”
A.J. has a lot of decisions about where to go next and his dad promises to stick by his side.
