Flu-like virus spikes in Lamar County

LAMAR COUNTY, Ala. (WCBVI)- Reports of a flu-like virus and kids out sick have Lamar County educators taking extra precautions.

Superintendent Vance Herron says about 12% of the school district’s students were absent Tuesday.

Lamar County High School and Vernon Intermediate are seeing the most kids out of class.

Herron says there have been reports of a flu-like virus in the community.

The district is in contact with the state about the issue, but Herron says the numbers are no where close to an emergency situation.

He does ask parents to keep their sick children at home until they’ve been free of fever for at least 24 hours.
