‘Flame Of Hope’ Makes Its Way Through Northeast Mississippi Ahead Of Special Olympics

TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – Law officers from Northeast Mississippi helped carry the “Flame of Hope” as it makes its way to Keesler Air Force Base and the 2019 Special Olympics.

The flame of hope was carried through Veteran’s Memorial Park in Tupelo to help build excitement for the upcoming Special Olympics Mississippi Summer Games.

A large group of Northeast Mississippians walked alongside the flame of hope as it was carried to the Vietnam Memorial Replica Wall.

Major Chris Deback is the state torch run director.  He says the torch run helps bring awareness to the Special Olympics.

“It’s not only sports, but life skills, this shows them that they can do anything, anything you set your mind to you can achieve,” Maj. Deback said.

Major Deback said he appreciates all the prayers and support his department has received since the murder of Officer Robert McKeithen, Sunday night in the police station’s parking lot.  Major Deback pointed out the torch run goes through about 40 different communities.  The Special Olympics begin Friday.
