Five Finalists Announced for 2016 Ferriss Trophy

JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI/AP) – Mississippi State has three of the five finalists for this year’s Ferriss Trophy, which is given to Mississippi’s top college baseball player.

The three Bulldogs are pitcher Dakota Hudson and outfielders Reid Humphreys and Jake Mangum. The other two finalists are Ole Miss outfielder J.B. Woodman and Delta State outfielder Will Robertson.

It’s been a good spring for several of the state’s teams. Mississippi State is ranked No. 4, Ole Miss is No. 7 and Southern Miss is No. 17 in the latest d1baseball.com national rankings. Delta State plays in an NCAA Division II regional tournament in Tampa, Florida, later this week.

The winner of the Ferriss Trophy will be announced at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame on May 23. The award is sponsored by C Spire Wireless.
