OKOLONA, Miss. (WCBI) – Some Okolona parents had the chance to enjoy some quality time with their children and grandchildren Saturday morning fishing.
The fishing with father’s event was part of the William Raspberry Baby Steps empowering parent program in Okolona. It’s designed for children from birth to three years old. It gives the adults the chance to get acquainted and spend time interacting with the children. Carla James is the site coordinator for the program. She says it’s particularly important for young children to have a positive male influence.
Carla James with the Baby Steps Program says, ” We know that fathers and grandfathers and any male caregiver, we know that they play a very important part in a child’s life. And so this is one of the reasons why we keep this event going. And we plan on having other events as well to promote parental involvement for males.”
James says, they choose fishing as venue because it is not stressful. She says it is important for the parents spend quality time with the children before they start school, so that they can become successful adults.
