Video: Fireworks On The Water Announced For July 2016

COLUMBUS AIR FORCE BASE, Miss. (PRESS RELEASE) This Independence Day weekend, fireworks will fly over the Stennis Lock and Dam on Friday, July 1 in a patriotic salute to our nation’s history.

Columbus Air Force Base, Lowndes County, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the City of Columbus, in conjunction with the presenting sponsor, Visit Columbus, will host “Fireworks on the Water 2016”, a free and open-to-the-public event, 5 p.m. July 1 at the east bank of the Stennis Lock and Dam.

Beginning at 5 p.m. the event will feature live musical entertainment, children’s activities, and food and drink vendors.  The professional fireworks show, choreographed to music, will begin after dark.

Event-goers are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs. Pets are not allowed, and personal fireworks, including sparklers, are not permitted.

“The decision to move an Independence Day celebration to the first of July was a clear one,” said 2nd Lt. Lauren Woods, Columbus Air Force Base Public Affairs Officer and event co-chairman. “By having the event on Friday, guests can come and celebrate with us and then still have plenty of time to spend with their families.”

The last time Fireworks on the Water occurred was in 2015, where a crowd of over 8,000 gathered for the evening’s festivities. This year’s crowd is anticipated at 8,000 visitors as well.
