Fire Under Control at Severstal

LOWNDES CO., Miss. – (WCBI) A fire breaks out on the Severstal campus.

Lowndes County firefighters responded to the steel producer around 7:30 pm Tuesday.

Fire officials tell members of WCBI that there was an incident with one of the melting pots.

It required large amounts of water for cooling purposes. Lowndes County volunteer firefighters were still on the scene around 9:30 p.m, but reportedly have the situation under control.

While emergency responders from Baptist Golden Triangle were on the scene, none of the workers were injured.

Severstal has been in production since 2007, and is one of the largest employers in Lowndes County.
