NEW ALBANY, Miss. (WCBI) – A local couple is remembering their son while helping families suffering through tragedies.
28-year-old Matt Kyle was a fun-loving, young man with a great attitude.
In 2011, Matt was diagnosed with leukemia and after months of chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant, Matt lost his battle with the disease earlier this year.
His parents, Terry and Angie Whiteside, established a fund in Matt’s honor that will financially assist families going through similar situations.
During their stay at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, the family met several others who could no longer afford the basic necessities.
“I overheard phone calls of ladies, people crying, fussing and cussing telling them to come get my car, it’s sitting right here in this garage. Cut my lights out, whatever you gotta do. I can’t do anything different than what I’m doing right now,” said Angie Whiteside, Matt’s mother.
The Whitesides are planning to do several fundraisers to build up the fund and amount available to families.
