Explosion rattles Lafayette County plant
LAFAYETTE COUNTY (WCBI) – Things are now stable following an afternoon explosion at a the Winchester ammunition plant.
Lafayette County Sheriff Major Alan Wilburn says the small explosion happened in an enclosed section of the building and involved non hazardous materials. Three people suffered injuries but those are not life threatening. Wilburn adds there is no longer a reason for neighbors to the plant to be worried about another blast. Winchester will conduct an internal investigation to find out why the explosion took place.

At 1:25 The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department was notified about a small explosion at the Winchester Plant on old Hwy 7 north. The address is 411 CR 101. There was a small explosion that
occurred in a contained section of the building. The explosion was nonhazardous and non-hazmat. Lafayette County first responders responded quickly. First responders cleared the building of
smoke. There were three people non critically injured but were transported to Baptist Hospital Oxford. To neighbors and businesses in the area, there is no danger to your surroundings.
Winchester is conducting an internal investigation on the cause of the minor explosion. Again there is no danger to the surrounding area.
