STARKVILLE, Miss. – (WCBI)They’ve dedicated time and effort to helping their children get a head start on educational excellence. Now,they are being thanked for all of their hard work.
Teachers and organizers at Emerson Family Resource center in Starkville spent their Monday morning celebrating the nearly 200 parents who have made such a large impact on the center’s success over the last year.
Plenty of door prizes were up for grabs, including a 52 inch television.
Now, leaders of Emerson and their parent helpers are gearing up for a new year. They will spend the next 12 months, concentrating on the prevention of child abuse and neglect, through their Project Care.
” We want to bring awareness. That is our main focus is to bring awareness to preventing child abuse, and what tools I can use to help,” says organizer Elmarie Carr Brooks.
Parent Tasha Hogan says she has seen a big difference in her child.
“This class helped me by training and teaching my child how to stay focused in school,” says Hogan.
Emerson is a member of the Starkville School District, as part of their family centered programs.
