EMCC Quarterback Pruitt Named MACJC Player of the Week
SCOOBA, Miss. (WCBI/EMCC Athletics) – In throwing for 300-plus yards for the fifth straight game, East Mississippi Community College sophomore quarterback Dontreal Pruitt has been selected as the MACJC/jucoweekly.org Offensive Player of the Week for his throwing and running efforts during last Thursday’s 59-0 home triumph over Northeast Mississippi.
Pruitt, a product of Laurel High School, accounted for 387 yards of total offense and four touchdowns against the Tigers to help propel head coach Buddy Stephens’ third-ranked EMCC Lions to their seventh straight win of the season. Along with completing 19-of-32 passes for 327 yards and three touchdowns versus Northeast, Pruitt also rushed for a game-high 60 yards and one score on eight carries.
For the season, Pruitt ranks second among the NJCAA’s statistical leaders with 26 touchdown passes. Having been intercepted only twice in 224 attempts, the 5-foot-11, 175-pound Pruitt stands third nationally in averaging 342.6 passing yards per game and also rates fourth by completing 68.3 percent (153-of-224) of his aerials through the first seven contests.
Along with his 2,398 passing yards this season, Pruitt has also gained 296 yards on the ground with four rushing touchdowns on 44 attempts. On the year, Pruitt is averaging 384.9 yards of total offense per outing and has accounted for 30 total touchdowns.
Pruitt’s selection marks EMCC’s fourth weekly recognition by the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges this season, joining wide receiver/kick returner C.J. Bates’ pair of MACJC special teams honors and A.J. Stamps’ defensive accolade during Week 1.
Joining Pruitt as this week’s trio of MACJC football honorees were Hinds linebacker Herbert Harris (defense) and placekicker Tristan Reynolds of Mississippi Gulf Coast (special teams).
Now 7-0 overall and 4-0 within the MACJC’s North Division after registering their fifth shutout of the season a week ago, the EMCC Lions hit the road this week to meet the Rangers of Northwest Mississippi Community College Thursday evening (6:30 p.m.) in Senatobia.
