Elementary school teachers partner with local church
TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – Teachers at one elementary school had a chance to enjoy their annual Christmas party at an area church.
Teachers, faculty and staff at Tupelo’s Rankin Elementary were hosted by West Jackson Street Baptist Church.
That church has “adopted” nearby Rankin Elementary, and volunteers decorated the Fellowship Hall, served dinner and gave teachers and administrators an opportunity to relax away from the campus.
Rankin’s Principal says community partnerships are vital to the school’s success.
“The partnerships that are brought from the community and places like West Jackson allow us to do things above and beyond, there’s never a time we have called and asked for anything and have been turned down. But the most important piece is the people, we have volunteers who come, they spend time with out children, they pay attention to those children, intently,” said Dr. Mitzi Moore, Principal of Rankin Elementary.
Members of West Jackson Street Baptist Church help tutor students, and take part in other service projects at Rankin Elementary.
