CUMBERLAND, Miss. (WCBI) — There’s a new sheriff in town at East Webster.

As Doug Wilson departs, Ron Price puts on his maroon to join the Wolverines as the new head coach. And thus far, it has been a smooth transition & a great fit for both the team and coach Price.

“I am so thankful to be here,” coach Price said. “I got here in February. These kids have been open to me and my family. The community has accepted us. The kids’ attendance and tasks they’ve done on the practice field and 7 on 7. They’ve done an exceptional job of doing everything we’ve laid before them.”

“He’s been a positive inspiration,” junior Jon Austin Roberts said. “He’s talked about championships a lot. We’re pretty good and ready to go into the season. We’ll be as prepared as we can get.”

“Coach Price has given us confidence,” junior Cason Pate said. “He tells us we can win State Championships. It’s all up to us.”

And leaving it up to the players at East Webster centers around a new slogan that coach Price wants his team to live by going into the 2017 season.

“Our motto for this year is Make your next work your best work,” said coach Price. “We’re not taking anything away from what East Webster has accomplished in the past. We want to take a step forward and win the school’s first state championship.”

“We work hard every day,” Pate said. “Every day we come in and talk winning a State Championship. Really and truly that’s the last goal.”

“It gets rough with the heat but we work hard every day,” senior Cole Morgan said. “But coach always has something positive to say and he talks State Championships.”

You will hear the words hard work and State Championship quite often walking through the East Webster fieldhouse and for good reason.

The Wolverines have built their program around their tenacity & fight but the next step is for that to result in the school’s first Gold Ball.

“You can’t achieve it if you don’t believe it,” Price said. “We’ve put the work in and when the season starts we’ll take it one game at a time. The ultimate goal is for these kids to win a State Championship and they’ve worked hard enough to play for a State Championship. Hopefully at the end of the day we’ll be rewarded for all the work we’ve put in.”

East Webster will start the season at home versus Choctaw County then finish up the month of August at Okolona.
