East Central Student Dies in Accident
East Central Community College is mourning the tragic loss of sophomore Brittany Hutchinson of Forest, who was killed in one-vehicle accident on her way to classes Monday, Sept. 30, 2013.
The Mississippi Highway Patrol said the 19-year-old Hutchinson was traveling on Highway 489, about four miles north of Lake, when the accident happened.
ECCC President Dr. Billy Stewart said in a campus-wide e-mail he is “deeply saddened” about Hutchinson’s death, and asks the EC family “to keep Brittany’s family and friends in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”
EC sophomore Cahnesiya Donald of Forest remembers her friend and classmate as someone who always had a smile on her face.
“Brittany was a very sweet young lady who always spoke when you saw her,” Donald said. “You could never tell if she was having a bad day, was sad or down, because she was always smiling! She was my classmate at Scott Central and we lived on the same floor in Jackson Hall (at EC) last year. She was a friend, and I’m truly going to miss her.”
Hutchinson served as a work-study student at the ECCC Success Center during her freshman year.
She was a tutor and assisted in office work, according to Mary Boulton, Success Center/Warrior Path to Success Director.
“Brittany was a very dependable and reliable assistant,” said Boulton. “She was a very special young lady who will be remembered for her warm personality and that very special signature of her name.”
Visitation is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3 at Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Forest.
Services are 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4 at the funeral home chapel.
