Downtown Starkville visitors may soon have to pay to park

STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – If you’re driving to Starkville and plan on going to the Cotton District, you soon may have to pay to stay.
At its most recent meeting, the Starkville Board of Aldermen voted to consider proposals for paid parking in certain spots in the District and the Midtown area.
So far, only one proposal has been submitted. It would allow drivers to pay for parking through an app.
Mayor Lynn Spruill says it is similar to Parkmobile, which is used on the Mississippi State campus.
“So far, I have had one reach out to me, but they are all similar, and so it’s going to be a matter of what makes the most sense for us. And, as it stands right now, that relationship with the University is important, because that keeps the same company going from campus into the city, and, so, that’s probably where we will lean. But, you know we wanted to know what else was out there,” said Mayor Spruill.
It will be at least another month before the Mayor brings a proposal to Aldermen for final consideration.
